Our Church was organized in 1889. The covenant in the main sanctuary
reads: “In honor of the Free Christian Pioneers of Underwood
a number
Underwood area Scandinavian Pioneers, inspired by the writings of
Unitarian Kristofer Janson and motivated by a deep yearning for
responsible freedom organized the free Christian Church of Underwood
in 1889 and United in a covenant which states simply: In the Love
of Truth and the Spirit of Jesus We join for the worship of God
and the service of Man.
We are a Unitarian Universalist Welcoming Congregation that seeks
to be a spiritual home for people of free faith regardless of race,
color, gender, affectional or sexual orientation, age, national
origin, socioeconomic status, physical or mental ability.
We invite others of free faith and open mind to join us on our
journey. The task of understanding our lives, our relationships
with each other, and our connections to the larger world is difficult
and life long but easier when we undertake it together.
We gather at 10:30 every Sunday September through May. A former
Methodist Minister speaks the first of each month. The focus of
Robert Worner’s message have been centered around our seven
principles.
Rev: Stefan Jonasson has been speaking to the congregation for
over twenty years. He comes from a long succession of Unitarian
Ministers in Winnipeg, Canada.
Among the annual speakers visiting UUUC are Betty Mills,
Winona LaDuke, and others.
